CBT has been recommended as a treatment option for perimenopausal women by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). It can be used alongside treatments such as hormone replacement therapy (HRT) or can be considered as an alternative if a woman does not wish to take HRT, or when it is not recommended.
CBT can help with many symptoms of the perimenopause including:
- Anxiety and stress
- Low or depressed mood
- Hot flushes and night sweats
- Sleep problems and insomnia
- Setting boundaries and assertiveness
- Adjusting to loss and change
- Impact on body image and self-esteem
